Tokyo-headquartered Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding (MES) has established a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) business unit within its Ocean Business Promotion department.

The new unit will handle all operations and management related to FPSO chartering. MES has also acquired shares of Cernambi Norte MV26 B.V., an FPSO chartering company that operates in the Iracema Norte field off the coast of Brazil, from MODEC Inc.

The company said it will continue to work towards more business engagements and aggressively invest in FPSO leasing; while enhancing cooperation with MODEC. Separately, the group welcomed its very own Thai subsidiary, MES (Thailand) Ltd.

“Bangkok is at the core of the Mekong economic area. Furthermore, it is the centre of the manufacturing industry where many Japanese manufacturing companies have developed and where both private and governmental Japanese information are concentrated,” said MES in a statement.

“With remarkable development from the economies of ASEAN countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, more and more developments are expected in the internal market, which we hope in the future will be the market for our flourishing business.”
