Santos appoints marketing, trading VP

Australian gas giant Santos announced the appointment of Philip Byrne as executive vice president of marketing and trading.

Byrne, who will commence on 14 August and will be a member of the Santos executive committee, will take charge of the company's new marketing and trading division as part of his responsibilities.

He will transition into the role and will take over from current executive vice president John Anderson who is retiring from the company to pursue other interests.

Byrne has 14 years’ experience at BG Group in senior commercial and exploration leadership roles including roles in the UK, Europe, and India. He spent a further seven years with BHP Petroleum including president gas marketing Asia and Australia, and president, North West Shelf Australia LNG.

Previously managing director and CEO of Nido Petroleum, he successfully negotiated with Thai refining company Bangchak Petroleum, who acquired the majority of Nido’s share capital.
