Aberdeen’s C-MAR and the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) officially launched a dynamic positioning training facility (DPC-SMU) in Shanghai, China.

In this joint venture, C-MAR will provide dynamic positioning (DP) training to Chinese nationals and vessel operators in the offshore oil and gas sector.

50% of the world’s crude oil passes through the South China Sea. With an increase in oil and gas exploration activity, the need for more domestic operators to be able to work in deep waters and challenging environments is in demand.

“The launch of DPC-SMU is a considerable achievement for C-MAR and will see the expansion of our engineering and marine services to the Chinese market,” said C-MAR chairman, Chris Hawdon. “We look forward to accelerating the development of the China market through this partnership in meeting China’s urgent demand for DP training”.

The DP centre situation in SMU boasts equipment manufactured by Dutch company Praxis Automation Technology. It uses 3D graphics from the V-STEP DP Class B simulator, recently accredited by the Nautical Institute in Shanghai.
