Gazpromneft Sakhalin LLC (a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft) announced that it has completed testing the 3-SD well in the Dolginskoye field in the Pechora Sea, and has released the jack-up drilling rig.

Gazpromneft Sakhalin is the operator of the Dolginskoye field. This is the third exploration well in the field, and the company says it is the first time that such a major volume of work has been completed at a well during this region’s short ice-free season.

In late 2013, Gazpromneft Sakhalin contracted with the Romanian company Grup Servicii Petroliere SA (GSP) to use the GSP Saturn jackup to drill the well. Water depth at the wellsite is about 40m, and the location in the northern part of the Dolginskoye field is about 75km offshore.

GSP reported that the rig arrived at the drillsite on 17 June 2014. Gazprom drilled the well to 3500m TD by late August.

During the drilling, Gazpromneft took core samples and analyzed drill cuttings, acquired vertical seismic profiles (VSPs, a type of seismic survey with detection equipment placed directly in the wellbore), and tested four different strata. The program allowed Gazprom to collect new information about the geological structure of the Dolginskoye field, and clarify porosity, permeability and other geological features.

At the beginning of November 2014, the Pechora well was abandoned, all equipment dismantled, and the empty wellhead hermetically sealed to ensure complete isolation from the external environment. The GSP Saturn rig will be towed to the port of Murmansk in November.

Final reports of drilling and well testing is nearly complete, with specialists from the Gazprom Neft Joint Scientific and Research Centre analyzing the samples and data obtained. The data will be used to develop a work program for the 2015 ice-free season.
