The biennial Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2016 will be opening in just under three weeks at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At a briefing held 2 March 2016, it showcased the progressive and comprehensive conference program that reflects the theme – "Excellence in Asia".

"Petronas is very honored to continue our commitment as a corporate sponsor for OTC Asia,” said Dato' Wee Yiaw Hin, executive vice president and CEO, upstream, Petronas. “The event - the biggest in Asia - will serve as a platform for industry experts, government agencies and external stakeholders to congregate and share knowledge and experience. We need to continue collaborating on innovations and technologies and we need to do it at a faster pace. At the same time, as an industry we really need to step up and make a major and structural change on how the industry should operate in terms of cost, productivity, efficiency and effectiveness."

Hosted by Petronas, the corporate supporting organization for OTC Asia 2016, and its organizing committees, the briefing was attended by industry leaders and experts including Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib, senior vice president, upstream Malaysia, Petronas; Todd Creeger, president, ConocoPhillips Malaysia; Sauu Kakok, vice president offshore, Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia; and Maen Razouqi, vice president and general manager, Brunei, Malaysia and Philippines, Schlumberger.

The extensive conference program will feature two plenaries providing insights into overcoming technology gaps and maintaining growth through cost leadership, and demonstrating successful leadership in other industries; 10 panels discussing current trends such as cost reduction through innovation, oil price volatility and implications to the industry, next generation workforce and FLNG; 18 special sessions and country briefings with presentations on major on-going regional projects, market outlooks and investment climates; and more than 300 multi-disciplinary technical presentations on various aspects of geoscience, deepwater, subsurface and surface engineering, facilities and construction, and  more.

"The conference will address challenges the industry is facing - especially improving efficiencies and increasing collaboration in a big way,” said Rao Abdullah, Malaysia task force vice chairman and vice president – Asia Pacific Region of Halliburton. “As Albert Einstein said - we cannot solve a problem with the same thinking we used when we created them, we have to think differently".

More than 15,000 participants, sponsors and exhibitors - representing more than 2500 organizations from over 60 countries - are expected to take part in OTC Asia 2016. The exhibition features over 250 exhibitors showcasing their latest technologies and services.

The event will also feature three new components focusing on education and technology recognition – The Next Wave for young energy professionals, the High School STEM program for high school students and teachers, and Spotlight on New Technology Awards for exhibitors showcasing the latest, most advanced technologies.

OTC Asia 2016 promotes the exchange of ideas and innovations to advance scientific and technical knowledge for offshore resources and environmental matters. The event will take place from 22-25 March.
