Gazprom Neft has acquired a subsoil usage license for the Novosarmaskoye field in the Orenburg Oblast of Russia.

The license — for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons — was issued by the Russian Federal Subsoil Resources Management Agency and runs until 5 May 2037.

Alexei Vashkevich, Gazprom head of geological exploration and resource-based development said, “Obtaining a subsoil usage license for the Novosamarksoye field is yet another major step forward in developing the Orenburg production cluster.

“We are actively working on improving the quality of our resource base, and have already embarked on geological prospecting works that will further improve efficiency in the process of field development.”

The Novosarmaskoye field was discovered by Gazprom within the Uransky license block located in the Sorochinsky district of Orenburg in 2016. After drilling a prospective well, the presence of free-flowing oil was identified. Oil in place is estimated at more than 8MT.

This is the first discovery at the block under investigation, and Gazprom specialists believe the Uransky block to contain an entire series of small fields.
